abandoned

These stunning images of forsaken Russian houses make my heart ache. Left uninhabited and neglected in Russia's remote forest regions, the dilapidated structures bear silent witness to bygone days. To my mind, they reflect some fundamental aspect of the Russian spirit in their dignity and beauty.

Oh, the glory; I want to go live in them and liven them up again.

Have you ever seen that photo essay of the girl who rode her motorcycle through the area around Chernobyl?

too too gorgeous. at least we're seeing them before the trees grow inside them as in detroit.

Where is the Russian Historical Society on these? {Does one even exist? Let's hope so. We are currently house shopping and these are scrumptious!}

PS: I did a shout out for your blog today. Stop by my waffle house when you get a chance! ;)

Loved seeing these again — so hauntingly beautiful — and thanks for your kind words about automatism, too!

Terribly sad. And no there's no real historical society...things are a mess. Have been rereading Tolstoy so this just echoes the sadness.

Beautiful! I wish I had seen these before reading Anna Karenina, because I would have loved having these pictures in my head.
